Challenge

Since its inception in 2007, Codazen has significantly expanded in both size and capabilities, with teams of digital strategists, designers, developers and account professionals across their two locations in Irvine, California and Salt Lake City, Utah. Codazen’s founder and CEO had always envisioned the company as having a people-first culture that is focused on collaboration and innovation, and this was essential to maintain as the company’s growth accelerated.

Codazen’s leadership realized that the company would need some organizational development (OD) to continue to foster rich employee experiences and empower more effective teamwork. Codazen reached out to Bright Talent for both outside HR expertise and feet-on-the-ground support, including:

  • Organizational Development

  • Interim HR

  • Technical Recruiting

Solution

Organizational Development: Codazen's goal was to establish a matrixed organizational structure to support better cross-functional collaboration across their teams. Bright Talent’s OD expert kicked off the effort by holding an organization design session with Codazen’s CEO and other key leaders to capture their vision and begin to lay out a transformation roadmap. Then they advised Codazen's leaders on the most effective ways to implement their organizational objectives.

Interim HR: In support of the OD project, Codazen’s leadership envisioned evolving their people practices to meet the changing needs of employees and to promote a learning culture that would support ongoing improvement. This required a different consultant with hands-on expertise as an HR business partner.

Bright Talent’s HR consultant evaluated the current state of HR practices and identified gaps in comparison to the corporate vision. After the evaluation, Bright Talent’s HR consultant assumed the interim HR leader role and provided strategic guidance to align HR practices with business objectives and day to day tactical HR needs.

Technical Recruiting: With a growing number of clients, Codazen also needed recruiting support to keep up with their hiring demand. Bright Talent provided outsourced recruiting support to augment their team and help them find qualified tech talent in a competitive market. Bright Talent’s contract recruiter worked closely with management to source, qualify and present candidates while managing the process and candidate experience until resume submission and final disposition or offer extension.

Results

By adapting to the company’s size and budget parameters, Bright Talent was able to provide Codazen with the same level of service they provide to Fortune 1000-level companies. Bright Talent's expert consultants helped Codazen reach their objectives in a way that met the needs of company leadership while fostering a great candidate and employee experience.

As companies grow, so do their HR needs, both strategic and tactical. It’s critically important that these two areas move in conjunction with one another, otherwise an imbalance is created with too much strategy and not enough process efficiency OR too much process and not enough strategy.

Through advisory and close partnership, Bright Talent’s HR strategy and operations experts ensured that Codazen’s transformation went smoothly and that the company is empowered to maintain this important balance over time.
