Change is the new normal.
The pandemic, in many ways, pushed HR to operate more like health and safety departments, planning and implementing infectious disease mitigation practices that impacted all employees in a short period of time. Most of us who figured out these practices while in crisis mode are now evaluating their long-term viability.
The required speed of change during the pandemic is, we hope, an anomaly. However, it has set a new precedent—and set of expectations among business leaders—on how rapidly change will be handled going forward. Process optimization or system implementation projects that took a year pre-pandemic are expected to take months or even weeks now. The question is how to capture the best rapid change management practices that were accomplished during the pandemic and use them again for new projects.
